Inspect the dovetails for plugs, no holes should be drilled into the dovetails. The wrong screwdriver will muck up the slots. Hope this helps. Remove and inspect the bolt and bolt face. Most factory specs show a 140 grain bullet at 2500-2600 F.P.S. Remington, Federal, Winchester, Norma and even my local favorite firm, Georgia Arms all offer factory loading for the 6.5. I don't shoot a Roberts for that type of game (pronghorn, etc. I shoot 115, 117 and 120 grain in 257 Roberts for whitetail and hogs. I once sold a Cooper in 257 Roberts because it would not shoot a group in your hat! Well: Actually it came with a test target (a one-holer) shot with 62 or 72 grain handloads. as many Coopers are set up for lighter tips. sako m591 consecutive barreled actions in the raw. Good Used Condition AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT OUR ON LINE STORE For Vintage Sako Magnum Caliber Actions Walnut Finnbear Inlay Grip Cap. A 120 is available and I believe Norma (or somebody) loads a 100 grain also.Ī lot of these loads will not group in some rifles as the twist rates are designed to shoot and perform best with others. Sako Finnbear Deluxe AIII AV Rifle Stock. Some of the others are 139 and 140 grain in a variety of tips.ballistic, power point, etc. It is a 156 grain heavy round nose, jacketed soft point that "really" stomps when it hits! Of course, with that heavy tip and it's shape it's much more of a 200 yard and closer pick than the others. Norma has the most unique loading for it. Here first deer!.CCSĮdited by Captain Chris Stanaback ( 03/13/10 12:52 PM) When I get down to that weight I usually use my "Roberts".

PSP ammo! Elizabeth uses it to terminate whitetails! Outstanding rifle! With the Fuginon 3-9X scope it's as versatile as you can imagine. It shoots 1/2" all the time with factory Winchester 140 gr. It is very lightweight, with a 20" barrel and synthetic stock, which is adjustable for length of pull, via removable spacers between the recoil pad and stock. A Husquevarna (spelling?) "Mauser-styled" bolt that was a little better and a Remington #700 "Classic" that shot less than an inch.Ĭurrently I own a Steyr "Mountain Carbine" in 6.5. I've also had a Ruger M-77 in 6.5 that shot about an inch and half on a good day. I know a good many of the Cooper rifles are single-shot, hence another reason for their exceptional accuracy. The groups were almost as good a that Cooper. Someone needed it more than me.Gone!! I regret selling it but I do that a lot. 22lr - Leupold European 30 3-9x40 Sako 75 Deluxe 30-06 - Leupold European 30 3-9x50 Sako Finnbear L61R. I had it topped off with a straight 7X 56mm Kahles scope with 26mm rings. The "Handy Carbine" came in a SAKO "Finnbear" (long) action with a factory McMillan black glass stock and a medium-heavy contoured "stainless" barrel. I sold off one of "2" SAKOs ever imported by Stoeger in 6.5X55mm made up as what they called a "Handy Carbine". Unlike Ken, I don't own a "one-holer" in this caliber. It will drop anything at reasonable ranges that you are hunting (with appropriate bullets and loads).
Anyone in the family can shoot it, as the recoil and noise is easy on the shoulder and ears. So: Why the love? Because, like my 257 Roberts it just plain "does the job". The velocities are enemic compared to a 264 Winchester Magnum (which is the same bullet diameter) and energy is just "so-so"! On target has my appreciation and thanks for making my boys first gun shop experience a superb one, they were on a high the rest of the day.Now you're talkin'! One of my very favorite cartridges.and I really don't know why! The action needed for it is standard, so it ain't really "compact".or "light".
I know there are bigger shops around, but talk about a gem of a local, I was very impressed. I’m sold and won’t bother going anywhere else. I’d given him a budget and he could have stretched me out a bit as most shops do, but no, his recommendations and advice were honest, very believable and he couldn’t have spent more time and effort with us, from running thorugh the best options, taking us outside with a few scopes for the boys to try, right down to doing a bit of a discount on a quote. Glenn actually talked us down a bit on rifles, and up a bit on scopes, and it made total sense. Talk about a fantsatic, low pressure, informative experience.
We wandered int he shop on a Saturday arvo, met Glenn, and the best part was he shook my boys hands and talked to THEM as much as me.

I had only got my license and filled out two PTA’s the day before, so I wasn’t able to buy anything as yet. I’m a brand new licenced shooter, and wanted my boys to get good advice and take the time to let them make their own decisions. I wanted to find a shop that would take the time to help my two teenage sons through their first 22.
